What does a gas fitter do and how are they different to a plumber?
A gas fitter is someone who works installing, altering or repairing gas appliances such as gas hot water systems & gas cooking appliances. It includes the pipes, ventilation and making sure the appliances are safe by testing and adjusting the devices & their controls. Although gas is safe, just like electrical work it can pose a risk if gas appliances are installed incorrectly. Although some plumbers are also gas fitters, some are not. It comes down to the qualifications and licenses they hold.
Why should I use a certifying gas fitter?
Hugh Stevens Plumber & Gasfitter is a certified gas fitter which means we are responsible for making sure our work is done properly. Licensed gas fitters are qualified, but must be supervised by a certifying gas fitter. Like any good gas fitter, we can also offer advice to help decide what's best for your home.
How do I know if I have a leak?
Signs your appliance may have a leak includes a gas smell. But carbon monoxide, which is produced when gas is burned, has no smell. You may also find your appliance is not working correctly - i.e. if it has a yellow or orange flame or the pilot light goes out frequently. If you experience any of these, you should get your cookware or heating appliance checked.
When can the plumber attend?
Jobs are prioritized. If your job is an emergency, we will endeavor to have a plumber to you on the same day. If it is an emergency then we will give you a day & time that suits.
How much is your call out fee?
Hugh Stevens Plumber & Gasfitter's hours of operation are: 7am to 5pm business days with no call out fee. Public holidays and after hours are by appointment where call out fees apply -charging by the hour.
Do you give free quotes?
Yes. Call us - We are often able to give you a price over the phone using a set list of prices for most maintenance jobs. If your job is not listed as standard, then our plumber will attend to provide a free quote. Note: An inspection or professional advise is not considered a free quote. Example of an inspection is - Roof leak. The plumber is required to get up onto your roof, inspect and report. The quote is free, but the inspection is not.
Do you find water leaks?
Yes. We have many years of experience combined with the specialized equipment required to locate water leaks. If your water leak is concealed and not able to be seen with the naked eye then the electronic leak location equipment will be required.
What is the cheapest hot water system to run?
This will depend on what type of hot water system you currently have. What area you live in, and what kind of house you have. It may also depend on the direction & pitch of your roof and what electrical tariff you have. Please call us for more information.
Which is the right hot water system for me?
There are many types of hot water systems ranging from instantaneous, gas hot water systems and electric hot water systems. Almost everybody has their own preference for the type of water heating system they prefer and everybody has their own reasons for preferring each type.
